A devoted Husband of 58 years, John Bumister (Boumeester), the most selfless man many have ever known, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph, on the early morning of July 5th, 2017, after a brief illness.
John, who immigrated to Canada from Holland in 1952, worked for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) for almost 40 years starting in accounting and retiring as a Vice President. Later going on to have a second career at the Treasury Management Association of Canada (TMAC) as the Executive Director.
John’s extensive career in international banking took him and his wife Harriette with their two sons, Scott and Paul, to such places as Jamaica, where Paul was born, Trinidad and Tobago and finally London, England. During his tenure at TMAC, John continued and expanded the “Fat Cat” Golf Tournament, still being held today, as well as highly informative and always sold out TMAC Conferences held downtown Toronto having keynotes speakers such as Canadian Astronaut Roberta Bondar and the famous Frank Abagnale Jr-master of deception and brilliant forger.
In his retirement years, John with Harriette moved from Mississauga to Guelph, where they became residents in the Village by the Arboretum. John became very active in the retirement community serving many years from a financial standpoint as well as working on the still very popular Tree Talk publication.

John leaves behind his adoring wife Harriette and two sons Scott and Paul Boumeester, and grandchildren Matthew, Taylor and Abbigail and daughters-in-law Diane and Mary. From his home town of Kingston Ontario, John will also be sadly missed by his surviving siblings Mary, Ann and Harry and their families.
The family wishes to invite all of John’s friends to a Celebration of Life which will be held in his honour at Reid North Hall in the Village by the Arboretum, 33 Bayberry Drive, Guelph on July 15th from 12.00pm-3.00pm.
John’s family wishes to thank all the nurses and doctors at St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre who showed nothing but love and compassion during his final days.
